HelpDesk Computer Services

Does your computer keep crashing? Is it running slowly? Are you having problems accessing any site with your browser? Are pop-up ads driving you crazy? Take advantage of one of the two types of service the HelpDesk provides for students’ computers running Windows 2000, Windows XP (Home and Professional editions), Windows Vista, or Apple OS X.

The HelpDesk can provide you with a free TechTools CD. This CD includes anti-virus programs as well as spyware and adware removal programs. It has instructions on enabling a firewall, checking Web browser settings, performing automatic updates, and other computer maintenance.

You can also choose to have HelpDesk staff work on your computer. The fee is $70 (payable via Bama Cash) and includes the following services as needed:

Virus, Spyware, and Adware Removal

Programs to detect and remove viruses, spyware, and adware will be installed, updated, and run.

Hard Drive Maintenance

Defragmentation and other routine hard drive maintenance tasks will be performed.

Operating System (OS) Repair

Missing or corrupt drivers and damaged kernels or .dll files will be replaced.

OS Reinstalls and/or Data Recovery

Existing data will be recovered, and your computer’s operating system will be reinstalled, using valid license keys you provide.

Software Installation

Academic software (such as Microsoft Office, Matlab, or Macromedia Dreamweaver) will be (re)installed on your computer, using valid license keys you provide.

Refunds

If the above procedures do not solve your computer problem, $35 of the service fee will be refunded to your Bama Cash account. If your computer will not turn on due to hardware problems, the full fee will be refunded to Bama Cash.
