Dialup Instructions for Macintosh System 7.5.3 - 8

  1. From the Apple menu, click on Control Panels
  2. Open the PPP control panel. (If you are using System 7.5.3 or 7.6, and you do not have a PPP Control Panel, you will need to install OpenTransport/PPP, which came with your system.)
  3. From the File menu, choose Configurations...
  4. Highlight "Default" and click Duplicate. Rename this configuration "UA Dialup".
  5. From the PPP menu, choose Modem...
  6. Select your modem type from the Modem menu. If your exact modem is not available, use one of the "Null Modem xxxxx" settings where the xxxxx is the speed of your modem. (Note: iMac users should already have the ‘Internal 56k’ modem selected.)
  7. Close the Modem Control Panel and save the modem settings.
  8. From the PPP menu, choose TCP/IP... and set the following:
    • Connect via: PPP
    • Configure: Using PPP Server
    • Name Server: 130.160.4.114
  9. Close the TCP/IP Control Panel and save the settings.
  10. In the PPP Control Panel, check "Registered User" and set the following:
    • Your myBama account name and password
    • The phone number 347-1800 (or 7-1800 from on campus or 205-347-1800 from long distance)
  11. Click the Connect button to connect to UA Dialup.
