Checking Your Modem in Windows Me

Check to see that your modem is properly installed:

  1. Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.
    1. In the "My Computer" window, double-click on the Control Panel icon.
    2. Double-click the Modems icon in the "Control Panel" window.

    4. Close the "Control Panel" window.
  2. Check to see that your phone line is properly connected to the wall connection and to your modem. Most modems have two jacks. To make sure you have used the correct jack on the modem, plug a phone into the other jack and check for a dial tone. If there is no dial tone, switch jacks and check again.
