Internet Access

Campus Offices

If you are having trouble with your Internet connection in your office, call the HelpDesk at 348-HELP immediately.

ResNet

ResNet is a paid service available to people living in most of the residence halls. It provides high-speed Internet access through the campus Ethernet network. This allows each person in the room to have his or her own Internet connection without interfering with the telephone line.

UA Wireless

There is currently wireless access from many locations on campus. In order to use this access, you must have a recent OS (such as Windows 2000/XP or Mac OS X 10.2 or later).

UA VPN

The University has VPN service available for when you need to securely connect to the UA network. You must have a valid BamaMail account to connect to the VPN server, vpn.ua.edu.

Other Internet Service

UA Dialup provides limited Internet access. If you need additional Internet access, or if you need service for your entire family, you may want to sign up with an Internet Service Provider (ISP). Dialup Internet services are available throughout Tuscaloosa, while high-speed access is, at present, limited to only part of the Tuscaloosa area. Cost varies widely, with high-speed access (through cable and DSL modems) costing more than traditional dialup access.

Some high-speed providers allow you to share a connection between multiple computers. This document will help you set up this type of sharing:
