Formatting a Worksheet Group
AutoFormat
Group the worksheets as described in the previous section, and on one worksheet, select the range to be formatted. On the menu bar, click Format and then click AutoFormat.

A dialog box opens. Click the format you want from the list of available formats and then click the Options button to change any options you want by selecting or deselecting them.

For example, deselect the Alignment check box and click OK to undo the right-aligned text.

Click outside the selected range to view the AutoFormat applied to the cells. The formatting is applied to that range on all worksheets in the workbook.

If you want to apply a format to multiple cell ranges, select a range and then double-click the Format Painter button (shown below).
Double clicking allows you to apply the format to multiple cell ranges. Click the Format Painter button again to turn Format Painter off.
- Make sure the worksheets in the Singers.xls file are still grouped, and select the range A3:B23.
- Click Format and then click AutoFormat so that a dialog box opens.
- Click the Classic 3 AutoFormat in the list of available formats and then click the Options button.
- Deselect the Alignment check box and click OK to undo the right-aligned text.
- Click outside the selected range to view the AutoFormat applied to the cells. The formatting applied to the Net Income cells includes a white background and a solid black border. You can apply this portion of the Classic 3 AutoFormat to the Expenses cells and the Earnings cells.
- Select the range A23:B23 and then double-click the Format Painter button. Double clicking allows you to apply the format to multiple cell ranges.

- Click cell A8 and then click cell A16. Excel displays the contents of the ranges A8:B8 and A16:B16 with a white background and a solid black border.

- If the format isn’t applied to both cell ranges, you may not have double-clicked the Format Painter button so select the range again and double-click Format Painter.
- Click the Format Painter button again to turn Format Painter off.
- Now you want the numbers to appear with commas only so select the range B5:B23 and click Format on the menu bar and click Cells.

The Format Cells dialog box opens.

- Click the Number tab. If necessary, click Number in the Category list, reduce the number of decimal places to 0, click to select the Use 1000 Separator (,) check box, and then click the OK button. The numbers now appear with commas.

- Next format the worksheet title by clicking cell A1 and the Bold button on the Formatting toolbar and then increase the font size to 14 points.
- Finally, drag the right border of column B to 10 characters (to automatically adjust Column width to the width of the widest entry you could double click on the column border).

- Click other sheets in the group to see that the formatting changes you made to the January sheet have been applied to the other sheets in the group.
To Ungroup Worksheets
Right-click the January tab and a shortcut menu appears. Click the Ungroup Sheets on the shortcut menu. Only the January tab should be highlighted now and the work “Group” disappears from the title bar.

Save your work and go on to the next section on Working with 3-D Cell References.
