Outlook 2007
The Button
In Outlook 2007, the Button
replaces the form File menu. When you open a form to create a new item or open any message, appointment, meeting, contact, and task, you will see this button in the upper left corner.
For example, when you click on the New button
to create a mail message while in the Mail Pane, the new message form opens as shown below:
If you want to save or print a message or look at its properties or set its permissions or move it, you would use this menu. Also, you can create any kind of new Outlook item using this menu. For example, you can create a new Appointment, Contact, Distribution List, Task, etc., while reading a message (or from within any form), just by clicking on the Button. It also allows you to set Editor Options (see the button at the bottom below).
Quick Access Toolbar
Another new feature of Outlook 2007 is the Quick Access toolbar located next to the Button in forms.

By default, it has Save, Undo/Redo, and Previous/Next icons. Additional commands can be added using the Editor Options button at the bottom of the Button menu.

For example, you could add a Quick Print icon to the Quick Access toolbar by selecting the Editor Options button on the Button menu, which opens the Editor Options dialog box as shown above. Select Customize in the left pane and then under Popular Commands, select Quick Print. Click on the Add button and then OK to add this command icon to the Quick Access toolbar. Also, you can right-click on any command on the Ribbon to add it to this toolbar.
Additionally, there is a dropdown menu beside the Quick Access toolbar. This menu allows you to customize the toolbar (see below).
The Ribbon
Within Outlook forms (not the main window), the Ribbon replaces the old dropdown menus in previous versions of Outlook as well as other Office applications. The Ribbon has tabs with groups of command icons as shown below on an open message.

Many groups of commands, such as the Options group shown above, have dialog box launchers in the right-hand corner
. When you click on the arrow, it opens dialog boxes such as the following Message Options window.
Use this window to set options for message delivery, tracking, and importance level.
Navigation Pane
The Navigation Pane can now be minimized into a vertical button bar. Just click on the double arrows.
This minimizes the Pane as shown below:

When you click on the double arrows indicated, this expands the Navigation Pane again. Notice that you can also expand and collapse the Favorite Folders and Mail Folder panes as well using the same technique.
To-Do Bar
There is a new To-Do Bar in Outlook 2007. It includes a Date Navigator and lists tasks, e-mail messages flagged for follow-up, upcoming appointments, and calendar information. You can open any of these items by double-clicking on them.
This bar can also be collpased and expanded using the double arrows at the top of the bar. Close it by clicking on the black X in the corner. Go to the View menu and choose To-Do Bar to redisplay it.
