Inserting Clip Art

Clip art refers to the images in the Office Media Gallery.
To add clip art to a slide, you can use a predefined slide layout such as Text & Clip Art, or you can insert it as you would a picture by going to Insert on the menu and selecting Picture.  Also, you can use the Insert Picture icon Clipart image on the Drawing toolbar.

Practice: Inserting a Clip Art Image

  1. Go to Slide 2.
  2. Display the Task Pane and then the Slide Layout by clicking the Other Task Panes list arrow and then Slide Layout.  Scroll down the Task Pane until you see Other Layouts.  Click the layout with the description Title, Text, and Clip Art (first row, left column, below Other Layouts).

PowerPoint automatically reduces the size of text in the bulleted list if needed so that it fits within the reduced text box.

Resizing Clip Art

If the clip art is too small or too large, it is very easy to change. You can increase or reduce the clip art size by dragging a resize handle.

Practice: Resizing the Clip-art Image

  1. Drag a resize handle of the clip-art image until the image is the relative size shown.
  2. Clipart on slide

  3. Drag the entire clip-art image so that it's centered between the top and bottom of the slide, but still near the right edge of the slide.
  4. Select the bulleted list text box by clicking anywhere in the box, and then drag the right-center resize handle to the right until it just touches the left edge of the clip art. The font in the bulleted list should automatically increase in size.

Recoloring Clip Art

In PowerPoint, you can recolor clip-art images. However, you cannot recolor bitmap images or other types of pictures.

Practice: Recoloring a Clip-art Image

  1. Make sure the clip art in Slide 2 is still selected by clicking it. The resize handles appear around the image, and the floating Picture toolbar is on the screen.  If the Picture toolbar doesn't appear automatically, click View on the menu bar, point to Toolbars, and click Picture.
