Editing AutoContent Slides

Replacing Placeholder Text

The AutoContent Wizard automatically creates a slide show containing suggested text in placeholders or regions of slides reserved for inserting text or graphics. You edit slides by selecting the placeholders one at a time and then replacing the placeholder text with other text.

  1. In the Slide Pane, drag across the text of the presenter's name (currently the computer owner's name) to select it. When the text is selected, it appears as black text on a violet background.
  2. Type your first and last name and then click anywhere else on the slide. As soon as you start to type, the placeholder disappears, and the typed text appears in its place. If PowerPoint marks your name with a red wavy underline, this means the word is not in the PowerPoint dictionary, or the word is misspelled.  Right-click the red wavy underlined word to display a list of suggested spellings, and then click the correct word, or simply edit the misspelled word.  If your name is marked as a misspelling, right-click the word to display the shortcut menu, and then click Ignore All.
  3. With Slide 1 in the Slide Pane, click the Next Slide button on the right of the Slide Pane below the scroll bar.

Click to the right of the title text ("Introduction...") so that the title text box becomes active (as indicated by the hatched lines around the box and the resize handles at each corner and on each side of the text box).

  5. Type to the New Banner System and click in a blank space just outside the edge of the slide to deselect the text box. The hatched lines and resize handles disappear.  Now you're ready to replace the placeholder text in the bulleted list on this slide.  If you click somewhere on the slide that selects another item, such as the main text, click outside the edge of the slide to deselect all items.
  6. Within the main text box, select the text of the first bulleted item, State the purpose of the discussion and then type To provide background information on student web readiness
  7. Select the text of the second bulleted item by clicking on the bullet, then type To provide an overview of growth in usage of online system (without a period).
  8. Press the Enter key to create a new bullet.  The insertion point is to the right of the bullet, waiting for you to type the text.
  9. Type To provide an overview of implementation dates for the new system.

As you add more text to a bulleted list, PowerPoint automatically adjusts the font size to fit in the main text placeholder.  If the font size doesn't automatically adjust so that the text fits within the main text placeholder, click the AutoFit icon AutoContent slide image and then click AutoFit Text to Placeholder. Click in a blank area of the slide to deselect the bulleted list text box.

    To edit the other slides:

  11. Click the Next Slide button to go to Slide 3.
  12. Select the title placeholder ("Topics of Discussion") and type Today’s Agenda.
  13. Select all the text in the main text placeholder, and type Students Web savvy , press the Enter key, and then type Growth in usage since 2001.
