About Web Forms

A commonly-asked question at the HelpDesk is "How do I put a form on my Web page?" Another one is "Why doesn't the form I created with (insert name of Web editor here) do anything?"

The problem with these questions is that they over-simplify the process. Most Web forms are made up of two parts:

  1. The HTML page that includes the form, and
  2. A program located on the server that processes the information from the form.

The main problem for users at the HelpDesk comes from not having the second part, so the form can't do anything.

If you use FrontPage to create your form, it usually expects to use FrontPage extensions on the server to process the form. FrontPage extensions are not installed on bama.ua.edu.
